Eating fried spiders in Cambodia

Have you ever eat a spider? A fried spider is a delicacy in Cambodia. Khmer people call it a-ping but it’s also commonly known as edible spider. In fact, the spiders are a species of tarantula genus Haplopelma Albostriatum (Thai zebra tarantula).

In Cambodia, it’s completely normal. For the first time I saw it in the city of Siam Reap (close to Angkor Wat). There was the young Khmer girl selling fried spiders on the street. She had lot of them. I was obviously fascinated but I could not resist….

How does it taste?

It’s very tasty, really. Almost like a chicken or maybe like a prawn. Something between. Some people recommend not eating it but I found it, as well as Khmer people, very delicions. If you go to Cambodia, you should definitely try!
